Clays Instruction Corner
Welcome to my instruction corner. I feel the best way to improve at chess is to develop a passion for it. This is true for any skill you can imagine. When you love doing something, you will naturally want to be as good as you can at it. Improving will become it’s own reward, the work you put into it will become enjoyable and the results will follow as sure as the sun will rise in the east tomorrow morning.
Chess is much more than just a game. It is more than a sport. It is more than an art form. With every move, a saga unfolds before your eyes. Endless possibilities present themselves to you for discovery and manipulation. When you come to understand the possibilities that lay within the position you command, you have the chance to create brilliance.
Within chess there is truth. It may at times be extremely difficult to find, but it is there in every position you will encounter. All chess positions have a manifest destiny yearning to be realized and your job is to be the master of that destiny. If you find the truth of the position and successfully navigate your way through the minefield your opponent will place in your path to victory, you will create a work of art that others shall enjoy and learn from. There is an unrivalled joy in seeing one of your victories published for the world to see as an example of how chess can and should be played.
My hope is that by using this “instructional page” you will not so much specifically learn how to make better chess moves, but develop a deeper appreciation of the intricacies of the game.
